Information for award nominations
The Chief Minister’s Awards formally recognise and reward Northern Territory Public Sector (NTPS) teams and work groups for outstanding achievements, as well as outstanding partnerships between the public sector and private enterprises. The awards also provide opportunities for knowledge sharing across all areas of the Northern Territory Government.
Nominations are open to any work group or team in the NTPS, including projects/initiatives with jurisdictional, non government and private sector partnerships.
Across 8 categories the awards acknowledge significant initiatives that make a positive difference to the Public Sector and Northern Territory community.

Rebuilding the Territory’s Economy Award Rebuilding the Economy | Recognises NT Government initiatives, projects, or teams that attract investment, drive economic growth, create jobs, support local businesses, and strengthen the Territory’s economic resilience. It celebrates innovative and impactful contributions that deliver strong and sustainable development opportunities for Territorians. |
Restoring the Territory Lifestyle Award Rebuilding the Economy
| Celebrates initiatives that address the unique challenges faced by regional and remote areas, such as geographic isolation, limited resources, and access to services. Projects in this category focus on fostering economic development, improving services, strengthening local engagement, and building community resilience. Winning initiatives demonstrate innovative approaches that bring long-term, positive impact to the lives of residents and deliver economic benefit to the Territory. |
Safer Territory Award Reducing Crime | Recognises initiatives and achievements by NT Government agencies leading efforts to break cycles of offending and strengthen community security, delivering programs that drive population growth, enhance liveability, and foster a thriving, inclusive community. It celebrates initiatives that contribute to a secure and welcoming environment, making the Territory a better place to live, work, and enjoy. |
Outstanding Partnerships Award Rebuilding the Economy | Recognises outstanding performance and achievements to promote cross-government cooperation, collaboration and partnership initiatives, including partnerships across NT Government agencies; as well as partnerships with business, non-government or academic/training organisations, to meet a priority objective in the delivery of service to the NT community. |
Excellence in Frontline Service Delivery Reducing Crime | Recognises NT Government programs, teams or individuals who go above and beyond to support the lifestyle, education, health, well-being, and safety of Territorians. It celebrates innovation, responsiveness, efficiency, and customer-focused approaches that simplify and enhance the experience of Territorians accessing government services. |
Inspiring Innovation Award Rebuilding the Economy | Celebrating the bold ideas that drive progress, this award recognises NT Government programs, teams or individuals who champion creative thinking and embrace new approaches to deliver impactful and lasting change. It celebrates innovative solutions that challenge the status quo, improve systems or services, and drive measurable benefits for the NT community or government operations. This award highlights forward-thinking approaches that foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and continuous improvement. |
Empowering our Communities Award Restoring our Lifestyle | Honouring partnerships that make a difference, this award recognises NT Government programs, teams or individuals who demonstrate a deep commitment to working alongside remote and regional communities. It celebrates initiatives that build local capability, foster inclusion, and deliver positive and sustainable outcomes. This award highlights authentic engagement, co-designed solutions, and culturally responsive approaches that strengthen community voice, leadership, and resilience across the Territory. |
Spirit of the Territory Award Reducing Crime | Recognises ongoing and outstanding dedication by NT Government agencies to NTPS values through championing ethical practices, inclusivity, integrity, and efficiency; exemplifying service excellence, accountability, impartiality; and shaping a culture of respect and innovation across the NTPS. |

Please note: projects/initiatives cannot be entered in more than one category. If a nomination has been received for a category that is best suited to a different category, judges may move the nomination to the correct category. You will be notified if this is the case.
Points to keep in mind when developing your submission
- Explain the project/initiative clearly and succinctly (e.g., what is the project or initiative? Is it in the development, testing or completion stage? What timeframes were undertaken or are being undertaken? Who were/are the stakeholders? What were the major outcomes? What impact did it have on the NTPS and/or community?).
- Projects/initiatives that align to every day agency core business may not be rated as highly as initiatives that are above and beyond the usual scope of the agency's business functions.
- Projects or initiatives that are innovative, sustainable, represent best practice, and have/had high impact are generally rated more highly.
- Projects/initiatives that align to every day agency core business and have delivered high quality service and outcomes, and have sustained over an extended period of time will also be assessed highly.
- Please note that the value of each project or initiative criteria, tangible achievements, outcomes, and the evaluation method are determined by the award category judging panel.
Judges will use the following criteria as a guide during the presentation
The project or initiative delivers quality and substantial efficiencies that maximise long term benefits for Territorians
Consider how the achievements and outcomes of the project/initiative lead to improvements in efficiencies, productivity and sustainability. What operational improvements have been made as a result of the project/initiative, and assessing if the project/initiative acknowledges diversity groups in the Territory.
The project or initiative includes a community engagement/stakeholder consultation process
Information was considered or included with community engagement or collaboration; how the collaboration originated; and if the engagement is continuous.
The project or initiative demonstrates excellent leadership practices and innovative solutions for the public sector
Consider the unique and/or innovative aspects of the project/initiative. Also, consider if the outcomes of the project/initiative can be modelled and promoted as best practice.
The project or initiative incorporates an evaluation process for effective results and continuous improvement
Consider which systems and processes have been developed for continuous improvement; the evaluation and review. What plans are in place to ensure long term sustainability; and what happens if the project/initiative does not continue?
